Negeri Sembilan State Museum

Negeri Sembilan State Museum was constructed back in 1953 during the reign of the 8th Yam Tuan, Tuanku Abdul Rahman. It was originally operating under the Ampang Tinggi Palace, located at the Lake Gardens on Jalan Dato’ Hamzah. In 1984, it was moved to its current location at the Craft & Cultural Park Complex.

The architecture resembles the traditional rumah gadang that’s emblematic to the Minangkabau culture. Some of the attractions here are the Negeri Sembilan Traditional House Model, Philately and Stamps Gallery and more.

Tuanku Ja’afar Royal Gallery

The Tuanku Ja’afar Royal Gallery is a three-storey museum dedicated to the 10th Sultan of Negeri Sembilan, as well as the history of Minangkabau rulers and their people. Discover information, artefacts and displays about the royal that ruled for 42 years, beginning in 1967 to his passing in 2008.

Some of the different aspects of his life exhibited include his education, foreign service, diplomatic experience and royal service. Moreover, his own collection of sports memorabilia and paintings are found here.

Ampang Tinggi Palace

Once stood as a royal residence was the beautiful Istana Ampang Tinggi. Built as a replica of the iconic rumah gadang, this palace was commissioned by the 5th Yang Di-Pertuan Besar and initially erected in Kuala Pilah. Later on, it was transported to Seremban and retained the exact structure.

Remarkably, this wooden construction is connected without the use of nails. Therefore, only a limited number of people can enter at any one time to prevent it from collapsing.

Teratak Za'ba

At Teratak Za’ba, learn about Zainal Abidin bin Ahmad, the Malay writer more popularly known as Za’ba. The Bugis descent was recognised for his contributions to modernising the Malay language. The museum has been erected in the structure of a rumah gadang at his birthplace in Bukit Kerdas.

Find information in the form of books, pamphlets and compact discs as well as artefacts and antique memorabilia such as a gramophone, typewriter, radio, furniture and scholarly documents.

The Royal Museum Seri Menanti

Located in the beautiful Old Palace is The Royal Museum Seri Menanti. The four-storey palace was completely reconstructed without nails by a pair of skilled local craftsmen in 1908 after the first one was destroyed by British forces in 1875. Elevated on stilts, the design is influenced by the Minangkabau culture with a touch of colonial elements.

In 1992, Tuanku Ja’afar ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman approved its transformation as a royal museum. Other than exhibits showcasing the history of Negeri Sembilan’s royal lineage, visitors can check out the traditional costumes, furniture, weapons and other paraphernalia pertaining to the royals.

Makam Diraja Seri Menanti

Located in the royal capital of the state, Makam Diraja Seri Menanti is the final resting site for members of the Negeri Sembilan royal family. The mausoleum is recognisable by the golden domes, comprising a large one surrounded by several smaller ones. Additionally, the walls of the entire structure have been painted alabaster white.

There is another building constructed as the royal tomb within the compound that lays the late DYMM Tuanku Ja'afar Ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman, the second longest ruler of the state.
